3. Durham Tech: Who We Are Durham Tech is one of the 58 NC community colleges.
We serve Durham and Orange Counties (including Durham, the Research Triangle Park, Chapel Hill, and universities including Duke, NC Central University, and UNC-Chapel Hill).
Durham Technical Community College employs 150 full-time faculty and 130 full-time staff.
The college serves approximately 25,000 students each year (8,500 curriculum and 16,500 continuing education students).
4. Who We Are, continued 63% of our students take at least one developmental course.
We use the COMPASS test, primarily.
54% of our first-time enrolled, curriculum program students begin with at least one developmental course.
The college has no racial majority; 64% of our curriculum students are female; 72% of our students are enrolled part-time; 61% are employed while enrolled; the average age of our students is 30.
5. Our Main Achieving the Dream Goal From 2002 to 2005, our persistence rate from first to second semester has remained steady at 69-73%. We decided to be more deliberate about getting the colleges arms around our students.
Our goal: to increase student persistence!
