Pray with dependencyNovember 4, 2012 Bible VersesActs 4:1-31 LifeWay: Bible Studies for life KJV – Fall 2012
WHY THIS LESSON IS IMPORTANT: Many believers – and churches- have lost a clear understanding of what it means to depend on God, especially through prayer. If we want to see lives transformed, we must ask God to transform them, then partner with Him. Believers need a natural disposition of communicating with God about the need for spiritual transformation. WHAT THIS LESSON IS ABOUT: This lesson is about praying with dependency on God transform people lives. HOW THIS LESSON CAN IMPACT YOUR LIFE: This lesson will help you rely on God to transform lives – including your own.
The Effect of a Courageous Witness: James, author of the biblical book by his name, reportedly spent so much time kneeling in prayer that his knees were as hard and callused as a camel’s. The Bible does not tell how James died, but an early tradition says that Jewish leaders tried to pressure him to deny Christ in front of a big crowd. The plan backfired when James courageously testified that Jesus is in heaven at God’s right hand and will come again in glory. When the furious leaders stoned him they only made his testimony more powerful. Even though numerous Christians have died for Christ through the ages, their courage has been as a magnet to draw people to the Lord. • The Life Word • God is in control and will work out His plan as we trust Him. • Scripture helps us understand our situations and how we should pray. • Believers can ask God for supernatural strength, knowing that He gives power and courage for His work. • You can expect God to work when you pray according to His will. • Spirit-filled Christians share the gospel.
