  1. 6 STEPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL FIRE DAMPER INSPECTION

  2. Know Your Timeline Every standard building needs a fire damper inspection after every 4 years except hospitals that require inspection after every 6years. If your building is new, or has undergone renovation, a fire damper should be inspected one year after installation.

  3. Find your last report Having your previous report in hand will make the process of fire damper maintenanceeasier. Your previous report will show how many smoke, fire or fire/smoke dampers need repair. This will give you an idea about how long the damper will last and which dampers have been updated.

  4. Secure Life Safety Maps Life safety maps will make the inspection easier. Without maps, it would take more time to find and test each damper. When there are maps available, the technician can know where to look and can finish the job quickly.

  5. Schedule The Inspection Having your inspection scheduled in advance will make your work easier. Having set the date and time of your inspection, will ensure that no other project is there to obstruct your inspection.

  6. Schedule Repairs If any of the damper is not working properly, don’t delay for its repair. A faulty damper should not be delayed for its repair. Often, contractors have replacement parts on hand and are able to repairs in case of any damage. This saves your time and money by making repairs at hand.

  7. Prepare Documentation Proper documentation is required after a damper inspection. Documentation is required and should be detailed that should include the date of inspection, how many dampers were inspected, etc. This documentation is a proof of your fire damper maintenance.
