  2. Instructions • You are going to see a list of sentences. • Pay attention to the sentences and try to remember as many as you can. • When the instruction to recall appears, write down all of the sentences you can.

  10. An orange can be used to play catch

  11. A newspaper can be used to swat flies

  12. A TV antenna can be used as a clothes rack

  13. A sheet can be used as a sail

  14. A boat can be used as a shelter

  15. A bathtub can be used as a punch bowl

  16. A flashlight can be used to hold water

  17. A rock can be used as a paperweight

  18. A knife can be used to stir paint

  19. A pen can be used as an arrow

  20. A barrel can be used as a chair

  21. A rug can be used as a bedspread

  30. Data Analysis • How much were you able to recall? Let’s get some sample numbers. (I would predict moderate to low.)

  31. Data Analysis • However, I would be willing to bet that almost everyone in here actually knows most of them, if not all. The problem is not remembering, it’s constructing the correct cue to find the sentences. Let’s try recall again, with the cues:
