SSA’s National Squad Strategy • SSA has appointed a National Coaching Director, Mr Dirk Lange • A National Squad Strategy has been developed and implemented: • 5 Squads Swimming, 4 squads OWS • 100 swimmers & 16 Open Water Swimmers • 34 black swimmers & 4 black OWS • 40 female swimmer & 7 female OWS • 31 coaches (13 black)

Transformation Policy • Draft policy (revised) • Awaiting SASCOC directive to finalise policy to ensure alignment • Targets set for national level • Targets set for each province, and to be translated to clubs • Holistic plan, considering athletes, administrators, coaches, team managers, officials, etc.

Department of Education • Meeting to identify areas of co-operation (13/7/05): • Aquatic Awareness integrated into the curriculum • Teaching teachers to swim • Learn to Swim integrated into the curriculum • Role-out plan recommended • Currently awaiting Dept of Education feedback • A schools strategy to be developed – driven by SRSA & DoE strategy for school sport.

Department of Water Affairs • Regulation of usage of water for recreational purposes: DWAF initiative with SSA involvement • Learn to Swim support to communities where new dams are being built
Rural Splash • February to April 2005 • Focus on training instructors (110) • Implemented programmes with children in rural communities (420 in this period alone) • Eastern Cape & Free State mainly • Also Kwazulu-Natal
