What are DoubleNegatives? Using two negative words in one phrase Double negatives create positive meanings. Examples • Mr. Morton isn’tnot boring. • That hardlydoesn’t matter. • You can’tneverleave though.
Why Not Use DoubleNegatives? • They confuse readers and listeners. Ex: I ain’tneverturned down nopizza. • You might say something unintended. Ex: I don’t want nopizza. • There’s an easier way to express it. Ex:I never turn down pizza.
