802.11sProposal to Merge Military Usage Case with Public Safety Usage Case Dr. D. J. Shyy, MITRE Jim Hauser, NRL Nov. 16, 2004 D. J. Shyy and J. Hauser
Introduction • Two contributions were submitted in Sep. 2004 meeting to address the importance of considering military usage case in the IEEE 802.11s Usage Models • “Military Usage Case”, J. Hauser (NRL), D. J. Shyy (MITRE), Max Green (MCTSSA), 11-04/1006r0 • “Usage Cases and Functional Requirements for Mesh Networking: A Military Perspective”, William Kasch, Jack Burbank (John Hopkins/APL), 11-04/1016r0 • These two contributions highlight • Mesh networking capability is something that the military needs today • Military has a strong buying power if the 11s products meet their requirements • Military would like to leverage on commercial products with some military enhancements D. J. Shyy and J. Hauser
Way Forward • Option 1: Introduce a new usage case in the 802.11s Usage Model document • May create too many usages cases in the document • Option 2: Merge with an existing usage case in the 802.11s Usage Model document • Can we find an existing usage case which has similar attributes as the military usage case? D. J. Shyy and J. Hauser
How About Merging with Public Safety Usage Case? • The public safety usage case shares many common requirements with the military usage case. • As a result, we propose to merge the military usage case with public safety usage case. • The proposed text changes are attached in the next few slides. Conclusion • If there is no objection from the group, we will pass the proposed text changes to the editor of the 802.11s Usage Model document. D. J. Shyy and J. Hauser
