Objectives OF THE STUDY • To present the existing status of the Public Libraries in Tripura and its organization. • To solicit opinion from the users (library members, library staffs and users) for the development of the Public Libraries in Tripura. • To suggest re-organization of future services required by the users based on the feedback. • To propose modernization of Public Libraries in Tripura with regard to automation, networking and digitization for knowledge management. • To suggest measures for improvement of the Public Libraries in Tripura.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY The scope of the present study is limited to 25 Public Libraries of Tripura

LIMITATIONS 1.Library modernization in general and Library automation and networking in particular are just in the primary stage. 2. Library staff still has to undertake a number of steps required for the Library modernization. 3. Lack of Hands on experience with hardware and software. 4. Study is limited to a proposed plan of development of Knowledge Management system of the Public Libraries of Tripura

Suggestions • Public Libraries of Tripura are lagging very much in the field of ITC and requires immediate attention for computerization, networking and digitization. • The Library should immediately procure necessary hardware and integrated digital Library Software. • Public libraries should immediately take up the task of retro-conversion by creating the Library data base. • State Govt. should give top priority to create a Public Library Website which could allow the users to access digital collections. (e-books, e-journals,). • Library authority should take necessary steps to digitized the rare collections which would be provided unlimited access and huge variety of contents with limited cost.
Suggestions 7. Immediate attention should be given to orient the existing Library staff to the upgraded skills 8. Once a Library website is developed, a lot of rare collections could be digitized and be up-loaded in the Website. 9. Immediate attention should be given to orient the existing Library staffs to the upgraded skills. 10. Necessary steps should be taken to develop the skill of the library professionals of Tripura by the way of training, workshop, seminars etc and to provide internet connectivity for knowing the digital world.
Conclusion Public Libraries in Tripura are facing with many problems due to lack of physical, human and financial resources as a result of which library is not in a position to provide effective and efficient services. This can only be achieved through modernization in the changing information scenario. A serious effort may be made by the state govt. for development of the Public Libraries in Tripura which may be the new horizon for sound development of Knowledge Management System in the public Libraries of Tripura.
