Common Cold • Colds are usually milder than the flu. • Symptoms may include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, slight general aches & pains, mild fatigue or weakness, and a mild to moderate hacking cough. • Fever and headaches are rare with the common cold.
Flu or influenza • The flu is generally worse than a common cold. • Symptoms may include fever, high (102`- 104`F), body aches, extreme tiredness, prominent headache, and a dry cough. • Sometimes the flu may cause a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and sore throat.
Prevention • HANDWASHING is the number one way to avoid the flu or common cold. • Covering your mouth and nose when you cough and/or sneeze followed by hand washing will also help prevent illness. • The FLU VACCINE is also very effective in preventing the flu.
The flu vaccine is an inactivated vaccine. You cannot get the flu from receiving the vaccine. A little soreness or redness at the injection site is the most common side affect. Anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting the flu may get the flu vaccine. Check with your doctor if you are interested in receiving the flu vaccine. Prevention is the Best Medicine • Get plenty of rest. Most people require 8 hours of sleep per night. • Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. • Don’t eat or drink after other people. • If you are sick, stay home. No one wants your germs!
