PDP • structured and supported process undertaken by students to reflect upon their own learning, performance and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development. • provides students with at least one occasion in each year of study on which they can engage in discussions with their supervisor about PDP.
FIRST YEAR • Autumn - discuss what it means to be a CS graduate, introduce PDP • Spring - optional PDP session (start of term) • Summer - optional PDP session (start of term), review progress and plans, discuss drafting a cv. SECOND YEAR • Autumn - individual PDP session • Spring - optional PDP session (start of term) • Summer - optional PDP session (start of term) FINAL YEAR • Autumn - individual PDP session • Spring - optional PDP session (start of term) • Summer - optional PDP session (start of term)
These discussions will hopefully encourage students to: • adopt an holistic view of the academic experience • reflect on both curricula and extra curricula activities • identify strengths and weaknesses • discuss possible opportunities for development.
It is anticipated that PDP will benefit both staff and students by: • Giving students the chance to consider exactly how their university education is contributing to personal and career development • Making references easier to write, having followed a student's progress more closely there will be more information to hand • As students take greater responsibility for their own learning, they should become easier to teach.
