Fundamental Features • An ability to sample analog voltage signal range from -12 V to 12 V via BNC; • An ability to reconstruct and display the sampled signal on VGA display; • An ability to create user interface and realize basic signal measurements, such as frequency and peak-to-peak voltage; • An ability to store/load the sampled signal to/from external memory; • An ability to replay a stored signal.
Parallel Patented Products • Self Adjusting Oscilloscope Patent Number: US 4743844 • Method And System For Secure Digital Triggering For An Oscilloscope Patent Number: US 7860674 B2 • Oscilloscope System For Acquiring, Processing, And Displaying Information Patent Number: US 4225940
Self Adjusting Oscilloscope • Substantial Similarities: • Same structure in sampling • Similar user interfaces • Store waveform to memory • Display Controller/ Driver • Utilize Microcomputer, RAM and ROM • Distinct Differences: • Analog to Digital conversion through ADC channel on the MCU • Display via VGA output and controlled by FPGA • Playback the stored waveforms
Digital Triggering • Substantial Similarities: • Similar trigger methodology with slope detector • Same sampling and comparison process • Distinct Differences: • 3-points detection algorithm (in MCU) • Dynamic trigger setting available
Signal Processing • Substantial Similarities: • Input sampling with A/D converter • Sampled data will be stored in to memory waiting for processing • Reconstruct signal for display • Distinct Differences: • Use TIMER delay to plot x-axis • Digital reconstruction via FPGA, no D/A converter needed
Is it Infringement? • Yes because… • The product is already in the market and some functions are literally the same. • Same tasks are performed in substantially the same way (i.e. A/D conversion, user interface…) • No because… • Different way to achieve some tasks (i.e. Input attenuation, display control and triggering algorithm).
