Overall Description • The project we propose is a digital oscilloscope with playback function that provides almost any function of a typical oscilloscope, such as digital sampling, signal processing, auto-scale setting, cursor setting, reconstruction and visualization of signals. Additional features such as recording and replicating signals as a function generator, interacting with PC via USB and GUI display of signals will also be included.
Major Functions / PSSC • An ability to sample analog voltage signal range from -12 V to 12 V via BNC; • An ability to reconstruct and display the sampled signal on VGA display; • An ability to create user interface and realize basic signal measurements, such as frequency and peak-to-peak voltage; • An ability to store/load the sampled signal to/from external memory; • An ability to replay a stored signal.

Ethical consideration • Safety- will it hurt people? • If the hull is intact • Voltage- External Supply voltage 110VAC, may cause injury if used improperly • When open it up • Fan- may hurt user when used improperly • Linear Regulator- gets extreme heat (~100 ℃) during use • Liquid will cause short-circuit and may lead to danger
Ethical continues • No injury may caused if used properly • Still, minimum safety check and test will be performed • The product should be well-packed and warn user before open case • Inside the product – Warning signs will be used in case user opens up
Environmental Impact • Manufacturing • PCB production: Chemicals such as ferric chloride and Copper • Metal box: non-degradable but recyclable • Components (i.e. Linear Regulator): Lead free • Solder – Tin and Lead • Power usage (VGA excluded) • Power consumption: • MCU ~ 300mW • FPGA ~ 100mW (continuous running, 13mW for VGA) • Linear Regulator ~1.9W (majorly transfer into heat)* • Other parts ~100mW max
