History of Mollusk Classification • 384-322B.C.: Aristotle classified Mollusks into two groups; Malachia (cephalopods) and Ostracodermata • 23-79 A.D.: Pliny changes the names to Mollia and Testacea • 17th century: Jonstonus changed Mollia to Mollusca • Through the next couple of hundred years, many scientists contributed to changes in the classification of mollusks: • 1758- Linnaeus • 1795- Cuvier • 1806- Dumeril • 1801-1816: Jean Lamarck; removed • tunicates and barnacles from mollusca
