WIMEA-ICT RC1Radiation and diffusor test J. Reuder, M. Schneider, Andrew Seidl, Bjorn Pehrsson, Robert Olsson WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Setup • 3 different sensors: • Vishay BPW20R • Excelitas VTB8440BH • Hamamatsu • 3 diffusor setups • no diffusor • 1 mm teflon diffusor • 3 mm teflon diffusor installation side by side with the GFI reference sensor for solar irradiance: data used for this comparison: 18.06.-24.08.2016 WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plot for all available 5 minute averages – no diffusor Without diffusor two of the sensors show a saturation effect (Vishay BPW20R at around 600 Wm-2, Hamamatsu S1223 already at around 300 Wm-2) WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plot for all available 5 minute averages – 1mm diffusor • the saturation effect disappears when using the 1 mm or 3mm diffusor • here the Excelitas sensor shows a large spread WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plot for all available 5 minute averages – 3 mm diffusor WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plots with error bars – no diffusor, 5 minute avg. WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plots with error bars – 1 mm diffusor, 5 minute avg. WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plots with error bars – 3 mm diffusor, 5 minute avg. WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
Scatter plots with error bars – Hamamatsu, 3mm diffusor • the Hamamatsu S1223 provides the best results in the test • the accuracy (see table) increases with longer averaging intervals WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
recommendations • use the Hamamatsu S1223 with 3 mm diffusor for Gen 3 • as the reliable solar radiation data from Bergen are limited to ca. 700 Wm-2 (bad summer in Bergen) we suggest a continuation of the test on the Gen2 deployments in Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan • the corresponding nodes should be eqipped with the 3 mm teflon diffusor • 4-6 weeks of measurements should be conclusive results comparable to those in Bergen, but extending the global irradiance range to around 1000 Wm-2 WIMEA ICT RC3 workshop Kampala, 29.08.-02.09.2016
