5. Your arguments, complete with notations and bibliography will be submitted in a formal package to Mr. O'Reilly.
You must: have an outstanding formal/verbal intro to accompany your power point – No more than 10 words per screen! Have an outstanding conclusion Address the teacher and students Have a powerful and influential power point Speak clearly and with good tone and intonation Not read! Not read! Not read! Have a solid background regarding all material Have plenty of evidence to back up claims will have a solid preemptive attack Have legal references Be quick thinking and able to rebut opponents claims Use teamwork Be passionate, interesting and informative Show respect for your opponent
Debate Topics Grade 12 • 1) The United Nations is a very expensive waste of resources that should be scrapped • 2) Canada should join Frances lead and ban women from wearing the Niqab in public. • 3) Prostitution should be decriminalized in Canada • 4) The Supreme Court of Canada has too much authority in Canada and it’s influence must be scaled back. • 5) The governments efforts to combat terror should supersede individual rights in Canada • 6) Humans are inherently violent and need to be controlled by the government
7) Genetically modified foods should be made illegal • 8) Religion causes war • 9) It should be illegal for companies to market to children • 10) George W. Bush should be indicted and tried for war crimes • 11) Food makers and restaurants should be held accountable legally for health issues created by their products including obesity • 12) Canada's role in Afghanistan is an occupation and not a liberation and should be terminated immediately
13) Prime Minister Harper must repatriate Omar Khadr immediately • 14) Animal testing and products which use animal testing should be illegal in Canada • 15) Affirmative action (reverse discrimination) must continue until all government agencies accurately reflect the demographics of Canada • 16) Parents should be held criminally responsible for the crimes committed by their underage children • 17) The practice of sentencing young offenders as adults should be stopped • 18) Quebec is in the process of banning all visible religious symbols from public buildings including: Turbans, hijabs, and crucifixes. Canada should pass the same legislation.

Students who miss a debate will be expected to research the topic and submit a one page, three paragraph response. Students who have an unexplained absence may receive a mark of zero
