WHY Parking & TDM at uOttawa • The City of Ottawa required that TDM be addressed at the development stage of the University’s major projets • TDM not only became an important consideration in the development strategy of uOttawa Master plan, but has been incorporated into the campus Master Plan • Campus development = shrinking parking supply • High cost of parking facilities – last facility $43,000/stall • Preparing for the Double Cohort (1999) • 400 people on our waiting list • Town & gown issues • Improve user options and quality of service for non drivers Supporting TDM through parking initiatives at the University of Ottawa

Parking Management Strategies Established policies/programs for efficient use of parking resources: • May 2001; Abolished free parking • September 2001; Converted waiting list to transfer list • June 2002; Converted Lot X into short term parking only • September 2003; permits sold on 1st come 1st serve basis • September 2005; reduced parking rates in peripheral lot for students only • September 2007; remote parking with shuttle services Increased parking rates, frozen since 1994 • 2002-2003 – 12% • 2003-2004 – 10% • 2004-2005 – 5% • 2nd wave of increases – 3% per year, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Supporting TDM through parking initiatives at the University of Ottawa
