CISCO DC3.0 ---FabricPath • 1、cisco宣称FabricPath是可以达160Tbps的处理能力。 • 整体的实现方式: • 1、16台核心NX7018,32台接入NX7018,每台NX7018提供512个10GE(16*32*10GE),接入NX 使用16*10GE上联其中一台核心,一共16台核心,所以接入交换机需要256*10GE上连到核心层,每台核心的NX之间是full-mush连接,两台之间使用16*10GE互联。在接入交换机看来:上联使用256*10GE,下联服务器使用256*10GE,这样核心层就没有上联出口路由器的端口了! • 2、以上是极端的IDC内部流量算法。

CISCO DC3.0 ---FabricPath • Cisco FabricPath introduces an entirely new Layer 2 data plane by encapsulating the frames entering the fabric with a header that consists of routable source and destination addresses. These addresses are the address of the switch on which the frame was received and the address of the destination switch to which the frame is heading. From there, the frame is routed until it is reaches the remote switch, where it is deencapsulated and delivered in its original Ethernet format. Figure 2 shows this simple process.

  36. The network Fabric definition Network Fabric • Any port in the network is directly connected to any other port. This significantly reduces transmission latency. • Packet processing is done once to reach the final destination. • The fabric has a single, shared state table for all ports. • The network is flat; all ports in the device are connected in a single tier. • All ports in the fabric can be managed from a single point. Cisco FabricPath 没有具备以上5个特性,算不上真正的Network Fabric。

  37. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • Cisco的FabricPath,不是扁平化的一层架构。 • 即数据包从进入端口开始,到达目标端口的整个过程,需要经过多次查找,才能送到目的端口。这样就增加网络时延。 • ---Juniper 的VC 及Stratus 是基于一次查找,就能到达目的。极大的提供数据中心的传输性能,降低网络时延。

  38. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • 在FabricPath的chassis 之间运行TRILL协议,每台设备之间虽然没有STP协议运行,但是针对管理来说,必选每个chassis进行日常管理。 • Cisco的TRILL是Cisco proprietary extensions and IS-IS under the hood 。设备之间的通信是需要客户进行管理的,并且针对每个chassis均是独立管理的,不符合Fabric Network的单一管理原则。 • ---Juniper的VC Fabric和Strutes能将上千个端口甚至十几万个端口统一管理,在客户的层面上看,完全就是一台巨型交换机而已。

  39. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • FabricPath使用的TRILL还在draft 过程中,宣称现在使用的是Trill扩展集,在TRILL成为标准后,能支持标准(但是不知道是否需要更换硬件,因为之前cisco在PoE也是这样的情况) • FabricPath需要F serial 板卡才能支持, • ---Juniper的虚拟集群在EX4200上实现了2年多时间,而且会在EX4500、EX8200和MX路由器上实现。Juniper的实现方式不需要用户更换板卡来实现真正的fabric。

Problems Not Addressed There are other challenges to deploying Ethernet subnets that are not addressed in this document other than, in some cases, to mention relevant IEEE 802.1 documents, although it is possible for a solution to address one or more of these in addition to the TRILL problem. These include: o increased Ethernet link subnet scale o increased node relocation o security of the Ethernet link subnet management protocol o flooding attacks on a Ethernet link subnet o support for "provider" services such as Provider Bridges (802.1ad), Provider Backbone Bridges (802.1ah), or Provider Backbone Bridge Traffic Engineering (802.1Qay)

  41. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • F serial板卡只能支持16000 MAC地址,这样会对虚拟机数量限制。 • 在cisco描述中他们的FabricPath支持8000端口,这样算下来,每个端口只能支持两个虚拟机,这样对虚拟机的迁移及数量有很大的限制。 • ---Juniper的虚拟集群在EX4200上实现了2年时间,而且会在EX4500、EX8200和MX路由器上实现。Juniper的实现方式不需要用户更换板卡来实现真正的fabric。

  42. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • FabricPath只是2层的topology技术。 • 两个2层domain的通信,必须依靠路由端口,然后返回到相应的目的domain。 • ---Juniper 能在同一个Fabric上进行不同2层domain的通信。

  43. Cisco FabricPath 疑问 • Cisco FabricPath 最大能支持8000个10GE在同一bridge domain,而且这个数值是在没有外联端口的情况实现的。 • 在32台接入16台核心,在整个庞大的网络中,数据包的调度系统就难以保证了! 想做到无损、快速、高性能、高可靠性的数据中心网络,从FabricPath描述上,做到这点基本上很困难。
