GOVERNMENT RESOLUTION ON THE MEASURES UNDERTAKEN IN THE AREA OF NUCLEAR POWER DEVELOPMENT • On January 13 2009, the following resolution has been adopted by the Government of the Republic of Poland : • To ensure the national energy security, and taking into account the economic development, a Polish nuclear power program shall be developed and implemented. GOVERNMENT RESOLUTION ON THE MEASURES UNDERTAKEN IN THE AREA OF NUCLEAR POWER DEVELOPMENT –cont. • The draft of such program shall be developed and submitted to the Council of Ministers by the government commissioner; this program shall determine the nuclear power plants' number, size and possible sites. • Moreover, the government obligates the National Treasury Minister to ensure that PGE Polish Energy Group SA shall cooperate on the program's development and implementation. Government Information Center added the following comment: • In connection with the government resolution of January 13, 2009 on starting the work on Polish Nuclear Power Program, at least two nuclear power plants will be built. The work will be conducted simultaneously, and the operation of at least one of these nuclear power plants should be started by 2020. • Nuclear power plant construction in Poland does not preclude Polish involvement in similar investments abroad. Comment by the Government Information Center – cont. • Government's Plenipotentiary for Polish Nuclear Power Program shall be charged with the coordination and supervision of the measures for the preparation of the regulatory and institutional environment, necessary for the nuclear power plant commissioning in Poland. • Responsibility for the plant's construction rests with PGE Polish Energy Group SA.
