  2. OBJECTIVES OF COORDINATION • Collective bargaining is a matter of common concern • ETUC congress of Helsinki • Avoid wage dumping in EMU • Accompany catching up process in enlargement countries • Enable ETUC to invluence macro policy making (Cologne process)

  3. OBJECTIVES OF COORDINATION • Intention is not to come to European collective agreements • .. but to strengthen the bargaining position of member organisations (defensive and offensive aspects)

  4. PRACTICAL APPROACH • COMMITTEE • ANNUAL SEMINAR • ANNUAL REPORT • RESOLUTION

  5. THE ETUC GUIDELINE ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING • WAGE NEGOTIATIONS SHOULD : • COMPENSATE FOR INFLATION AND REALISE THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE SHARE OF PRODUCTIVITY INCREASE • REST OF PRODUCTIVITY TO BE USED FOR IMPROVING QUALITATIVE WORKING CONDITIONS • OTHER DETERMINANTS
