MEASURING ACCESSIBILITY USING GIS

This study explores the measurement of accessibility in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Traditional methods are compared to Arc/Node logic and Territorial logic. The methodology involves data acquisition, cost surface modeling, and accessibility analysis. Territories are allocated based on accessibility measurements to highway nodes and the head of each municipality. The workflow includes analyzing accessibility to Lisbon and territorial allocation for optimal planning. GIS enables dynamic coverage for future developments like traffic data and population density.

  12. ANALYSIS WORKFLOW 3-Step calculation: a) estimate the travelling time to each highway node; b) estimate the travelling time and territorial allocation for each highway node; c) add the travelling time from Lisbon to the node to its hinterland’s travelling time + evaluation of alternatives
