Around the Room • The Song dynasty improved the system of working for the government when hiring many people to from a bureaucracy. • Through civil service government officials helped improve the Song dynasty. • People who worked in civil service had to pass an exam before becoming scholar officials This insured that candidates has strong incentive to do well. • To become a high-ranking scholar-official someone would have to pass a series of civil service exams.
