  3. Dynamite • An explosive based on the explosive potential of nitroglycerin, initially using diatomaceousearth (kieselguhr) as an adsorbent. • Patented in 1867 • Redhill, Surrey, England • Gelignite(also blasting gelatin) was patented in 1876

The Nobel Prize • Nobel signed his last will and testament and set aside the bulk of his estate on November 27, 1895 • He died of a stroke on December 10, 1896at Sanremo, Italy • 31 million kronor • First three of these prizes are in physical science, chemistryand medical science or physiology. • The fourth is for literary work
