The End • The boys light the island on fire to catch Ralph- significance? • Rescued by a British officer in a uniform • The officer looks upon a “trim cruiser” in the distance • Island stories are typically meant as a place of isolation and self-analysis, much like meditation. The boys do not reach greater enlightenment. This is the true tragedy. • They are saved from themselves by others making the same mistakes.
