  1. The Evolution of Androids The spark of the idea

  2. The First Android to be made and its evolutions • Created by Honda, they started with biped robots to understand the physics of walking • Starting with E0 in 1986 to E6 in 1993 • P1 in 1993 is the first robot to have the anatomy of a human • P2 also in 1993 was the first android with realistic human movements such as walking and hand and arm movements. • P3 and 4 had their sizes reduced and P4 (aka ASIMO) being the current model has advance walking technology

  3. http://world.honda.com/ASIMO/ • ASIMO was created in 2000 • The purpose of ASIMO was to create a robotic partner for humanity that could aid us in all of our tasks • Research of the human limbs and joints were need to understand how to create movement • Research of how to walk and balance itself on multiple types of surfaces. • Recognition of object, postures, gestures, environment, sounds, and faces • Capable of connecting to the internet and answering questions • Human like responses and interacting with the environment

  4. http://www.sonyaibo.net/aboutqrio.htm • QRIO created by Sony in 2003 (prototypes started in 2001) • Being only 2 feet tall, it was meant to be a toy for children • Similar to ASIMO, it has face and voice recondition and can use it to interact with people • First ever robot to have the ability to run (move with both feet off the ground) • Also capable of interacting with tools such as golf clubs

  5. HOAP http://www.communistrobot.com/robots/99 • HOAP was created by Fujitsu, 1st prototype created in 2001 and 3rd created in 2005 • 1 feet and 7 inch tall • HOAP was designed more for an AI in such a way that it was able to learn and emulate human movement more smoothly • In 2004, HOAP-2 received the Technical Innovation Awards from the Robotics Society of Japan • This robot is capable of doing many complex movements such as getting up from a sitting position, kicking a ball, climbing stairs, martial arts, and sumo movements

  6. http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/english/robot/act/index.html • Actroid is created by kokoro company LTD and developed by Osaka University in 2003 • Actroid purpose is to interact with humans by greeting and giving information out • They are also capable of being an aid to certain professions • They have the ability to speak, sing, dance • Made for either entertainment, pratical applications, or research • Very life like and very realistic and closest thing to a human

  7. Other Androids Robonaut Surena TOPIO HRP SURALP • Later androids will be developed by different companies but are fairly similar to its predecessors but maybe be developed for specific tasks • TOPIO was created by TOPY to play ping pong against human opponents (2007) • HRP is created by National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology to simulate human characteristics(2009) • SURALP is Turkey's first Android, developed by Sabanci University (2009) • Robonaut is created by NASA and General Motors to work on space stations in outer space environment (2010) • Surena is created by the students of University of Tehran in Iran (2010)
