A Personal Scenario November 2007: Urology “3 year” curriculum is failing Trainees feeling undertrained Trainers feeling that urological trainees were undertrained Urology curriculum introduced 2 years before ISCP was launched EWTD increasingly “biting” (Almost) no “Core” urology posts advertised December 2007: Discussion with PMETB PMETB Director of Quality agrees that new curriculum is appropriate The new curriculum needs to be in place by August 2008 The new curriculum needs to be submitted to PMETB by March 2008

PMETB Standards for Curricula and Assessment Systems Curriculum A statement of the intended aims and objectives, content, experiences, outcomes and processes of a programme, including a description of the structure and expected methods of learning, teaching, feedback and supervision. The curriculum should set out what knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours the trainees will achieve Assessment A systematic procedure for measuring a trainee’s progress of achievement, against a defined criteria to make a judgement about a trainee Assessment system An assessment system refers to an integrated set of assessments which is in place for the entire postgraduate training programme and which is blueprinted against and supports the approved curriculum
