Inherent Problems • Gasification Reactor • Given mass balance is invalid. • Total mass quantity going into the Coal Gasifier, does not match up with quantity coming out. • The mass balance discrepency between the inlset and outlet streams is approximately 400,000 lbs/hr. • Possible explanation: Microsoft Paint was used to put together the given PFD, and no real computing software (such as HYSYS) was utilized, thus resulting in such massive errors.
