A web site is an organizational publication designed to offer: • Information • Services • Content to local and remote users.
Information: • Who are you? • Where are you? • Where do you come from? • What do you do? • For whom do you do it? • How did you get there? What publications already exist? What can be digital?
A Library Web Site can function As an electronic branch Of the host organization.
Services: What is the service philosophy, and, how does technology improve it? • What is available “brick & mortar”? • What can be replicated on the web? • What can be improved on the web?
Content: • What knowledge is unique to you? • What material can originate with you? • Who cares about it? • Why, or • why not?
An electronic library can move Beyond simple warehousing and delivering Of resources By engaging in the active communication of knowledge.
Users, Clients, Patrons: • Who is your Public? • Who knows you already? • Who doesn’t? • Who claims you? • Who thinks they can’t? • Do you agree? • Disagree? • Who really can’t?
Promotion: • An active strategy of communicating: • significant information • relevant service,or • enlightening content • to a particular population.
Agenda: What do you want to communicate To whom? And why?
Process: • List the objectives, desired outcomes • Identify the tools/ resources • Materials • Personnel • Hardware • Select ONE! • Map it out • Carry it out • Evaluate it
