About Me • University of Iowa • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, 2006 • Concordia University • Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration, 2012 • AEPA Highly Qualified • Middle School Math • Mathematics • 9thyear teaching • 5 years teaching in Laveen • 4th year teaching in Higley Unified School District

  3. Our Curriculum • Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards - Common Core based standards • Eureka Math/Engaged NY – AZCCRS/Common Core based curriculum. Huge emphasis on rigor (thoroughness and accuracy) and real life, contextual situations. • Shift in Mathematical Practice – There is less direct instruction, and based more on questioning and exploring by students.

  4. 7th Grade Math Curriculum • Ratios & Proportional Relationships • Number Sense • Expressions and Equations • Percent & Proportional Relationships • Geometry • Statistics & Probability • Mathematical Practices

  5. Homework • Will be listed on my webpage daily • Expect Math homework (30 min – 1 hour max) • 3 to 4 times a week, rarely on Fridays • Weekly On line Assignments for Review/Extension (IXL, Ten Marks or iReady) once iPads are distributed. • Students should plan accordingly • Responsibility Hour (P.R.I.D.E.)

  6. Help with Homework? • Homework & Lessons will be listed on my website. • Student Interactive Notebooks (INB) • Tutoring happens Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:00 – 4:30 • Big Ideas Math • www.bigideasmath.com is a secondary source website.

  7. Responsibility Hour • Also known as P.R.I.D.E (Personal Responsibility in Daily Effort) • Students will be calling their parents to inform you if they receive Responsibility Hour. • Homework: Needs to be complete and accurate. • Materials: Pencils, notebooks, highlighter need to be out. • Tardiness: Students need to be to class on time.

  8. Interactive Notebook • The students take notes, perform practice problems, complete warm-ups, and many other things in these notebooks. • Usually stored in their backpacks, unless they would like to keep them in here. • They will be graded according to a rubric. • They will be bringing them home every month or so to show them to the parents so they can see what is going on in math.

  10. Behavior Management Plan • Student will be given a verbal warning. • If student behavior still exists, the student will be moved to a different location in the room. • If student behavior still exists, the student will be sent out of the room and parent will be contacted.

  11. iPads • Will be coming sometime in September. • All information & informational meetings should be happening closer to their release date. • Common websites/apps used: • edmodo • ixl
