EPCglobal Network Components • EPC Tag – Chip and antenna attached to an item to capture information about the item as it moves in the supply chain • Reader – Devices that detect and capture information from EPC tags • EPC Middleware – Software to process and filter streams of tag data from multiple devices prior to sending to ERP systems • EPC IS – Information services that standardizes data for use by other services • ONS – Object Naming Service provides global lookup service to translate an EPC into a product “pointer” for information stored on secure databases

  10. The standards process Relevant EPC standard components are submitted to the ISO process EPCglobal develops technology standards and interacts with established standard groups such as EAN.UCC

  11. RFID Technical Standard • UHF Generation 2 specifications being finalised and will be approved as EPCglobal standard before the end 2004. • The UHF G2 standard will be submitted to the ISO process, and incorporated in the ISO/IEC 18000 series of standards.
