Ms. S’s Background • Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from USC (Go TROJANS!) • Specialize in Marine Biology (marine mammals). • Clear Credential in Biological Sciences. • Hobbies: anything water related (surfing, water polo, swimming, etc.), web design, & being outdoors.
Curriculum • Use an integrated approach. • Theme: all things in this universe are interrelated and interdependent. • Students must apply everything they have learned in the 6th/7th grades to the Biosphere project in May/June. • 4-5 Projects (details to be given later): • 1st semester – Weather, Peak • 2nd semester – Biome, Biosphere • 1 long term projects – Ocean Globe (magnet only)
HW Policy • Expectation: Turn in assignments on time. • HW Bonus Points: • +1 pt. for turning assignment in on time. • +1 pt. if entire class turns assignment in on time. • If students do not complete HW: • Must attend Guided Study after school for 30 minutes by the next class (have two days). • If attend G.S. student will earn up to 80% of points back. • If “no show” for G.S. student will lose classroom merits, earn a “0” for assignment, call home to notify parents, and will be given two more days to attend G.S. • Those that choose not to go will be referred to AP. ** Hours: Mon.-Fri. Room #16.
Class Expectations • RESPECT = #1 rule. • Come to class on time/prepared. • Science section in school folder w/ all assignments completed up to standards. • SCAB book. • Necessary materials (i.e. pens, pencils, index cards, etc.). • Have positive attitude.
Classroom Behavior • Expectation: RESPECT all persons & all property. • Those who do not live up to expectations risk: • Being removed from lab activities (if occurs they will be put on a lab behavior contract). • Not being permitted to attend field trips. ** #1 Concern = SAFETY
