JEE 2013 Joint Entrance Examination Joint Entrance Examination or JEE is the new proposed common entrance test for admissions into central, state and private engineering institutions i.e. IITs, NITs, IIITs and IISERs. Need of JEE: • To create an umbrella or single entrance exam for all engineering aspirants in India. Till 2012 there are over 50 different Entrance Examinations for admission into various Govt. & Pvt. Engineering colleges • On an average a student appears in 5-6 entrance exams, thereby causing unnecessary stress on them as well as on parents. Giving so many exams creates lot of financial burden for the parents since each examination involves expenses like Application Fee & commuting to appear for the entrance test in various cities/at various test centres.
JEE Colleges These Colleges will accept JEE Score: • 15 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and IT-BHU, Varanasi & ISMU, Dhanbad. • 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) • 5 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) • 6 Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs) • 1 Indian Institute of Science (IISc) – (only BS Course / Programme). • Several other Govt. / centrally-funded institutions • Some private Colleges / universities at National level. • Hundreds of State Govt. funded / controlled colleges in various states. • Thousands of private Colleges in various states.
JEE Eligibility 1. Students who will appear in the Top 20 percentile of their respective XII board exam will be deemed qualified for IITs. 2. Students have to score following State-wise percentage to be eligible for IITJEE test: • Less than 50% : Meghalaya & Nagaland. • 50% - 60% : Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Orissa, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal. • 60% - 70% : Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, National Open School. • 70% - 80% : CBSE, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu. • Above 80% : Andhra Pradesh.
JEE Selection Process • Top 20 Percentile in Class XII • Score in JEE Main Test • score in JEE Advanced Test First Merit will be announced based on: • Top 20 percentile in XII • Marks of JEE Main test • A list of top 1,50,000 student will be announced in order of merit of marks of Main Test. Condition is that all 1.5 lac must in Top 20 percentile. • Second & final Merit list will be announced based on 100% marks of C. • Ranks declared in second merit list will be used for admissions in to IITs, IT-BHU and ISM.
JEE Exam Pattern JEE (MAIN): Objective type test to be held in the morning session to access the abilities of comprehension, critical thinking, logical reasoning of students. As per latest news reports it will quiz students on their knowledge of Physics. Chemistry and Mathematics and is expected to be on the lines of present AIEEE. JEE (ADVANCE): This will assess the depth of learning of a candidate. It is expected to be tougher than Main paper and be on the lines of present JEE paper. JEE Advance will conduct 4 to 6 weeks after JEE Mains.

JEE Seats Total Seats through JEE: • 15 IITs + IT-BHU + ISMU = 10000 + Seats • 30 NITs = 20000 + Seats • 6 IISERs + IISc = 2500 + Seats • 5 IIITs = 2000 + Seats • IIST + ISI = 500 + Seats • Other deemed Universities (National Level) = 5000 + Seats • State Level Colleges = 5 Lac plus Seats • Overall, a total of 5.5 lac seats will become accessible through CET BITS (BITSAT), VIT (VITEEE), Manipal, SRM, Amrita, Geetham, Amity etc. may continue with their 'own' entrance examinations. State-level/smaller Pvt. Colleges/universities may use CET score because of its wider acceptance.
