ICECI is a long-standing, internationally recognized classification system for external causes of injuries. It has been acknowledged by WHO and can be incorporated into the ICD Family of Classifications. ICECI provides detailed categories and data elements for reporting injuries and has been extensively tested and reviewed. Derivatives of ICECI have been developed for specific contexts, including a short version for less resourced countries. Further development and maintenance of ICECI is ongoing.
