  4. Scotland The official language is English but they also speak Scottish Gaelic.

  5. Northern Ireland The official languages are English and Irish.

  6. Wales The official languages are Welsh and English.

  7. England While English is the official language, Cornish is also recognized.

  9. Education • Children can begin nursery school at age 3 however, school is not required until age 5. • Children begin the 1st form when they are 5 or 6 years old. • Secondary school begins at age 11.

  16. The English are tea addicts: an Englishman drinks more tea than any person of any other nation (over twenty times more than Americans!).

  18. Did you know that the River Thames, which flows through London, has over 200 bridges and 20 tunnels?

  19. Big Ben is not the name of the entire building that contains the clock. The name is actually what the bell inside the tower is called. The structure is actually called St. Stephen's Tower.

  20. While the Great Fire of London (1666) was largely destructive, the casualty rate was just 8.  It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants.
