What is Crystal Meth? • D – Methamphetamine • Powerful CNS stimulant or psycho stimulant • More powerful & longer lasting than cocaine • Cheaper than cocaine. • Even in small doses, can keep you awake for extended periods of time, increase physical activity and decrease appetite. • A ferociously addictive drug that is spreading fast.
What does Meth look like? • Normally a powder or glass like shards • Could be white, clear, green, blue, pink, yellow, etc • Packaged in jewelry bags, gel caps, condoms
How Is Meth Used? • Smoked • Injected • Ingested • Snorted
SMOKED Meth Pipes
Ingested • Taken orally • Referred to as “parachuting” the user wraps meth in toilet paper and swallows.
Short-term effects can include: • Brief euphoria and rush • Increased physical activity • Decreased appetite • Increase wakefulness • Hyperthermia • Increased pulse and respiration • Dilated pupils • Dry mouth and bad breath • Uncontrollable jaw clenching • Sores and skin infections
Long-term effects can include: • Formication (Flesh crawling with bugs) • Tooth decay • Auditory hallucinations and delusions • Psychotic behavior and violence • Homicidal or suicidal thoughts • Birth Defects from pregnant mothers • Brain damage similar to Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease • Damage to Heart, Lungs, Kidney and Liver • Strokes and ultimately death
