NJ In the process of trying to raise the age to 21 Currently, the age is 19 (was changed a few years ago from 18 to 19)
What does this mean…? Persons under 19 should not be sold any cigarette, cigarette paper, or tobacco in any form, including smokeless tobacco, and electronic smoking devices (e.g. electronic cigarettes)
A person licensed to sell tobacco shall post a sign, at least six inches by three inches, at all points of display and sale including vending machines, that shall read in bold letters, "A person who sells or offers to sell a tobacco product to a person under 19 years of age shall pay a penalty up to $1,000 and may be subject to a license suspension or revocation. Proof of age may be required for purchase."
NYC Recently raised the age to purchase tobacco products to 21
