Background The UN was formed after World war II The UN replaced the league of nations, it was failing miserably at containing Hitler post WWII and pre WWII The UN formed to prevent another World War and to stop Germany form rising to a lot of power
Purpose/Mission The purpose of the UN was to prevent another war and to stop Germany from having a lot of power. It also brings all nations in the world together to work for peace and development.
Leadership and membership Banki-moon is the eight secretary-General of the United nations. He was born June 13 1944 There are 193 countries are members of the U.N The headquarters of the world organization located on the 18-ave site on the east of Manhattan.
General Assembly The General Assembly plays a key a role in the financing peacekeeping. The General Assembly of the main deliberative policy making and representative of the United Union. Each member countries has one vote. The General Assembly make decisions on important questions such as, those on the peace and security,admision of new member and budgetary matters, require a two thirds majority.
Security council The security council has primary responsibility for the international peace and security. 15 countries sit on the security council. The five permanent members of the security council are China, France , Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and United States.
International court of justice The international court of justice is at the peace place in the Hague ( Netherlands). The types of cases the international court of justice hear are pending cases and contentious cases. Example: Corfu channe United kingdom v. Albania.
World health organization The world Health Organization was established on April 7 1948 headquartered in Geneva Switzerland. The types of work the World Health Organization do was to help anybody in need of medical assistance. Examples: HIV,AIDS,Malaria,and tuberculosis
UNICEF UNICEF stand for United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. UNICEF was created to provide emergency food and health care to children in countries that been devasted by WWII Unicef helps local health managers in these districts to improve planning and supervision of immunization activities. Examples: child survival,basic education, gender equality child proctections
Summary slide Three we have learned are first of all, Unicef was created to help people who were hurt during the war. Secondly, the UN was formed the World War II. Thirdly, there are 193 countries and members in the U.N
