Wednesday 3 August 2011 A ‘typical’ day of LHC operation
Wednesday 3.8.2011 • 6:36 Fill #1999 dumped by power glitch (detected by FMCM) • 8:43 back in Stable beams Fill #2000 (2:07 hours) • Beam intensity: 1.615E14 • Bunch intensity: 1.17E11 • Atlas max. luminosity: ~2 Hz/nb • Emittance into collision: ~1.9 um • Beam lifetime >50 hours • Programmed dump at 6:16 after 21:32 hours of stable beams
Vacuum very good 1E-8
Fill #2000 • Damper module H2B2 tripped - switch back on • Reboot of cfv-ua47-bctfra to re-establish BCT reading • Experiment could not fully profit: • CMS: problems with cooling water solved by 19:30 + recovering time. (stopped data taking from 11:45 – 2:30) • LHCb • 3:30 both planes optimized drop below target lumi • 4:50 electrical alarm which could not be reset stop taking data • Total integrated lumi collected: • ATLAS 90.4 pb-1 • CMS ≈25 pb-1 • LHCb 25.8 pb-1 • ALICE 0.15 pb-1
Outlook • 7:10 injecting probe beam • Beam intensity: 1.68E14 • Bunch intensity: ~1.22E11 • Intervention in the PS (switching back to POPS power supply) • Intended to start 9:00 and last for 6-8 hours keep the current fill #2001 in the LHC Should we loose the fill Access • ‘adiabatically’ increase beam intensity
