User Experience Research Three ways of conducting relevant research on the Learning Express Academy user experience documented in PA#1 include: • “Targeted” focus group of contextual inquiry – receive feedback from the primary targeted audience (caregivers of kids that are in the Pre-K to middle-school age bracket) • Sample size 5 (readings indicate that five is often enough) • Key questions: likes, dislikes, overall experience, and room for improvement with regards to overall user experience • Asking the right people: will ask people who are independent and unbiased • Conduct the feedback sessions individually, not as one group • Competitor research • It is worthwhile to conduct research of the user experience available through schools/businesses to identify leading practices • Surveys • We could conduct surveys of existing families to receive feedback on what works well and what doesn’t work well with the existing website Results: • Contextual inquiry indicated: • Significant amount of positive feedback regarding the depth, breadth, and organization of the content • Organized well from a parent perspective • Liked reading about the Curriculum, Faculty, FAQs, Philosophy, Reasons to Apply • Like seeing many real pictures of happy kids • Liked actionable links in scroller and external linkages (Delaware news, Facebook, GreatSchools) • Further build out the Faculty section to further connect with people and even highlight those with significant tenure/10-years; FAQs – build on further to include allergies, deadlines, and communications info (e.g. Remind S/W, which could also be added to Reasons to Apply page); 404 error on one of the intra-page links; add pics to Facilty section (ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT) • Competitor Research: • Site structure compares favorably regarding the depth, breadth, and organization of the content • Ability to schedule tour electronically through the site would be a nice enhancement (ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT) • Surveys • Formal supplement parent or staff surveys have not yet been conducted (WORK IN PROGRESS)
Caregivers (parents/ grandparents) looking for a good school to care for their child Learning Express Academy (LEA) Pre-K to 8thgrade, before & after care; summer camp User research improvement area LEA in-house • Stay involved via Facebook page, alumni email distribution list • Periodic re-visits to the school • Love, Educate, Achieve theme • Award winning • Family atmosphere Elementary school… Pre-school… About… (Signifier, Mapping) 404 error • 2 Facebook pages (pre-school & upper school) over 1,300 followers • Love, Educate, Achieve evidence More faculty , facility, FAQ content (Affordance) • Ratings and comments enable on the Facebook sites • Significant amount of positive feedback Middle school… Extended Care… Summer Camp… • Individual attention • Family atmosphere • Challenging & rewarding curriculum Reviews… (external) Facebook… (external) • Express love towards LEA • Happy that their kids have grown so much academically, socially, and emotionally • Treated as a number • Rigid processes rather than rapid action on good ideas (e.g Google cardboard) • Quality education, great atmosphere, affordable • Strong reviews on Facebook sites and GreatSchools.org (external independent site) • Strong education, great atmosphere, character education, great quality • Schedule tour electronically thru the site (Affordance)
