InSitu lecture feedback system • Research and development project for adaptive teaching • Aims to assist learning in mass lectures Challenges in mass lectures • Difficulties in giving and getting feedback • Versatility of students’ backgrounds • Adapting teaching according to students • Creating interactive conversation instead of monologue InSitu for student InSitu for lecturer • A program for Java-enabled smartphone • Assists learning by increasing interaction • Giving feedback with a push of a button • Helps to determine students’ prior-knowledge • Measuring one’s knowledge by answering questions provided by the lecturer • Makes possible to adjust teaching real-time according to feedback of students Research and development • Prototypes of the system will be developed in order to test various approaches of using large amount of devices • The network is initially formed with Bluetooth technology • Full suppor for GPRS and WLAN clients will also be added in later point • Compared to similar system the InSitu has minimal equipment costs • The system is being developed by two part-time research assistants at the moment • During fall 2007 the system will be tested with 20-30 simultanious clients • The main goal of the research is to enable 200 devices to operate effectively within the system • The prototypes being developed will be tested in the lectures of information technology • Project is funded by the deparment of mathematical information technology • Further information: PhD Vesa Lappalainen vesal@mit.jyu.fi
