AJC - End To End Ethernet Ethernet Private Line (EPL) – Test Results September 2009
AJC GigE Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Tests • EPL Background • Test Configuration • RFC 2544 Tests of nominal frame sizes (Throughput, Latency, Frame Loss, Back to Back Frames, Recovery tests for 64, 128, 512, 1024, 1218 & 1518 Bytes) • RFC 2544 Tests of Jumbo Frames (9224 Bytes) • Incremental VC4’s (VC4-Nv where N = 1 to 7)
Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Background • The diagram below is an extract from ITU-T Rec G.8011.1 (01/2009) “Ethernet Private Line Service”. • AJC EPL is point to point fixed bandwidth consistent with relevant recommendations. • AJC EPL is provided from AJC cable station to AJC cable station (UNI-N below) and AJC can also arrange the access.
AJC GigE EPL Test Configuration • GigE EPL tests have been done Aust.-Japan (AJC) and Aust.-US West Coast (AJC & Pacific Crossing) using the setup below.
Ethernet Test Procedures - RFC 2544 • Some of the results obtained for nominal frames are below. Paddington to Shima: Frame Loss = ((Tx-Rx)/Tx) = zero for Throughput up to 99.99% for the nominal byte sizes. Paddington to Shima – Throughputbytes/sec increase at expected rate as frame size increases given the 20 byte overhead percentage is less.
RFC 2544 - Jumbo Frames (9244 Bytes) • RFC 2544 describes test procedures for Ethernet. Some of the results obtained for Jumbo frame are below. Paddington to Shima: Frame Loss = ((Tx-Rx)/Tx) = zero for Throughput up to 99.99% for the single 9224 byte size. Paddington to Shima – Throughput frames/sec near 100% as expect for 9224 byte frame as 20 byte overhead a small percentage.
VC4 =1 VC4 = 2 VC4 = 3 VC4 = 4 Throughput Granularity (VC4’s) • GigE on SDH = VC4-nV meaning 1 to 7 virtually concatenated VC4’s. Increasing throughput visible in results below/next page
VC4 = 5 VC4=6 VC4 = 7 Throughput Granularity (VC4’s) • GigE on SDH = VC4-nV meaning 1 to 7 virtually concatenated VC4’s. Increasing throughput visible in results below/previous page
