Basic characteristics of the Kyrgyz Republic • Capital – Bishkek city(894,6thsd. people); • Total area: 199,9thsd. square km ;Almost 90% of the territory are located 1500 mabove see level. • Resident population as of December 1, 2013: 5,6 million people. • Borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China. • Over 100 nationalities live on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Chronology of censuses In the Kyrgyz Republic, 10 censuses was conducted, first of them in 1897, but the last two – in 1999 and 2009 after sovereignty was gained. Unlike the 1999census, during the 2009 census it was conducted housing census. along with the population census.
Present population of the Kyrgyz Republic at the beginning of 2013 amounted to 5 mln. 408 thousand people.In general, during the period from 1897 to present time the population has increased by almost 8 times.
In 2009, compared with 1999 census, there has been a significant increase in the number of young people aged 15-29 years.Due to this fact, demographic burden ratio has reduced (from 898 people per 1,000 working-age population in 1999 to 682 people in 2009). In 2009, urban population was 573 people, rural population - 745 people. The average age of urban population made up 29.0 years, rural population - 26.8 years, total - 27.6 years.

Census period:-a preliminary visit/enumeration of premises;-conducting the census (full coverage);-control visit/enumeration;-collection of materials;-submitting materials to the processing center. 3. Post-enumeration period:-data processing;-databases set up;-assessment of results;-analysis of results;-publication and dissemination of results.
Census results were analyzed by the following characteristics: • Geographical characteristics of the population; • Demographic characteristics of the population; • Educational level of the population; • Economic characteristics of the population; • Migration; • Households and families; • Living conditions of the population.
