An opportunity to consider the appropriateness of the course and your ability to work independently Year 12 Early Hurdle Independent Study Project Aims: Must understand of what German society was like prior to the Nazi takeover Should understand why Germany was open to a Dictatorship Could consider why the Nazis specifically were able to recognise this need and respond to it
Contextual research Your task is to research and produce a presentation on one aspect of Germany prior to the Nazi takeover. This is crucial to provide background for the other groups on the key areas of development in German society before 1933. The topics are; • 1871 – Unification of Germany - • 1890-1914 Wilhelmine/Imperial Germany - • 1914-1918 – World War One - • 1918 Chaos after War - • 1919-23 The Birth of Weimar - • 1924-29 Weimar's ‘Golden Years’ - • 1929-33 - The decline of Weimar -
Content • You are to cover the key events, key figures and legacy of the period. • Presentations must include images, text and sources/documents (perhaps a Historians view on events). You will be given 1 lesson and homework for one week. • Presentations are to be given in class and used to construct a mind map on the situation inherited by the Nazis in 1933. • Library PCs are booked for the lesson on the 19th Sept and I will be there to assist • Date of presentations: 24th and 26th September
Top tips • Do not rely on the internet – use the books in the library on your period and the textbooks provided, where appropriate. • Conduct your research at home/in the library before next lesson then use the lesson to pull together your Ppt. You can then arrange to meet in a free period to finish it off. Expect to spend at least 2 hours outside of lessons on this. • It MUST be saved on a memory stick.
