Demetri Kantzavelos - A Member of the Executive board of the national Council of Churches of Christ in USA
Demetri Kantzavelos is the son of Christos and Merope Kantzavelos & was born in Chicago. He grew up in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago community. He attended Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.
He obtained his Master’s of Divinity degree in the year 1987. After graduation, he pursued post-graduate doctoral work in the philosophy program at Chicago’s Loyola University, concentrating in the area of metaphysics.
In 1989, Demetri Kantzavelos was ordained to the diaconate. In 1992, he was ordained to the priesthood after which he served as associate pastor of Chicago’s Annunciation Cathedral. Later, he was appointed Chancellor of the Diocese, a position he still holds.
In the year 1995, he was eminent to the rank of archimandrite. He is a Member of the Executive board of the national Council of Churches of Christ in USA.
Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos is an auxiliary leader of the Ecumenical Patriarchate serving in the United States. He is also the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. He has traveled and visited many parishes, and has delivered many speeches.
Demetri Kantzavelos has received various recognitions in his career. Last year, he was officially recognition by the United States of the Genocide by ISIS against the Christian minority population of Syria and Iraq.
Last year, he distributed quilts to various hospitals & institutions including La Rabida, Hope, Crisis Center, Children’s Memorial, Philoxenia House, Comers and more.
