Hook The Reader • Research • Think of a Scenario- • Identify the 5 W’s and How • Then prioritize • What is most interesting and important? • Which will catch the reader’s attention best? • Idea is to “hook” the reader or get their attention • Make it interesting
Make it Interesting • The “Lead” helps sell the newspaper • Example- if you do a story on strike- • What – two sides are in conflict (Make it dramatic) • “Colorado coal miners fight for rights in a bitter struggle that took the lives of innocent women and children.” • Who – strikers-management
