Creative Article • Create an article that applies the content of the topic • Remember Articles are about an event, incident, some action is being reported in the paper • Examples: Speech, strike, death, fight, attack, victory, election, invention, announcement • Articles include: interviews, eyewitness accounts, background information • The 5 Ws and How

  4. Hook The Reader • Research • Think of a Scenario- • Identify the 5 W’s and How • Then prioritize • What is most interesting and important? • Which will catch the reader’s attention best? • Idea is to “hook” the reader or get their attention • Make it interesting

Make it Interesting • The “Lead” helps sell the newspaper • Example- if you do a story on strike- • What – two sides are in conflict (Make it dramatic) • “Colorado coal miners fight for rights in a bitter struggle that took the lives of innocent women and children.” • Who – strikers-management

Tell the story Include all pertinent information Type and edit Be sure it is clear Style Tips: Need to include Headline and By line 2” -3’ Columns Short sentences Short paragraphs Be careful-must include all information Stay in Third person tense Use Interviews, or quotes from people who saw action Next Steps
