Interjections • A word that expresses emotion. • I can’t believe that she stole my crayon! • It’s snowing outside!
Verbs • Expresses actions, events, or states of being • run, jump, swim, bike, draw, write, read • I willplant this tree next spring. • I was not planning on going to the movies. • I swam across the pool.
Adverbs • A word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb • Describes how, why, to what extent, and where. • The man ran quickly. • I often walk to class.
Nouns • Used to name a person, place, thing, or idea -Can be concrete or abstract -Proper nouns- United States, Catholic Church,Veronica, Atlantic ocean
Conjunctions • Used to join words or groups of words. • And, but, so, or • I wanted to go to the park today but my mom wouldn’t let me. • I felt sick today so I didn’t go to school.
Adjectives • A word that describes a noun or a pronoun - The shinybike was sitting under the Christmas tree - I walked past the scary house to get home.
Prepositions • Shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word • Usually indicates the temporal, logical, or spatial relevance of an object in a sentence • I ride my bike over the bridge. • She put my backpack on my chair.
Pronouns • A word used to replace a noun or another pronoun • Personal pronouns: I, you, he/she, them • Possessive pronouns: mine, yours, his/hers, theirs • Demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these • Interrogative pronouns: Who, whom, which, what • Reflexive pronouns: myself, him/herself, themselves
