  2. Ornate (Adjective) • Elaborate or excessively decorated • Wedding dresses are usually ornate. • Castles usually have ornate decorations; generally, they are made of gold.

  3. Austere (adjective) • Stern or somber, without excess, plain and simple • The Puritans’ clothing was very austere. • The austere look on the teacher’s face made the students stop messing around.

  4. Cerebral (adjective) • Of or relating to the brain; intellectual in nature • The brain surgeons had to stop the cerebral hemorrhagebefore the patient bled to death. • Intelligent people are often described as cerebral.

  5. Incommodious (adjective) • Uncomfortable, lacking space • Many people find elevators to be incommodious. • When the desks start creeping to the front of the room, I often feel incommodious.

  6. Noisome (Adjective) • Offensive or disgusting • The noisome smell coming from the boys’ bathroom made me cover my nose and run away as fast as I could! • Curse words are noisome, and I wish people would not use them.

  7. Cacophony (noun) • Harsh sounds, disturbing noise • The cacophony of fireworks made the dogs howl, which made it even worse! • Children screaming is a cacophony!

  8. Veritable (adjective) • Unquestionable, actual, true • My word is veritable; you should always do what I say. • It is veritable that you have to go to school until you are 18 in Wisconsin.

  9. Verbatim (adjective, adverb) • To use exactly the same words; word for word • Please repeat what I said, verbatim. • I reported verbatim what I have overheard in the bathroom.

  10. Concurrent (adjective) • Acting at the same time, in conjunction • Our thoughts were concurrent, and we agreed on the plan. • We walked down the sidewalk concurrently.

  11. Evade (verb) • To elude or avoid by cunning, flee from a pursuer • You are trying to evade my question. Please just tell me who stole the cookie from the cookie jar! • Criminals often try to evade the cops.
