  2. Who Was she? • Diane Arbus was one of the most distinctive photographers of the 20th century. • She started out in advertising and fashion photography, working alongside her husband their work was seen in magazines such as vouge.

  3. In the late 1950s, she began to focus on her own photography. She photographed people she found on her wanderings around new york city and visited seedy hotel rooms, morgues and public parks. • These photographs found they way into Esquire magazine. These unusual images were very raw. • She was very strange and had sexual relations with her subjects, including her brother. Mexican midget in hotel room

  4. Arbus was known for photographing “circus freaks” and outsiders, many of whom she was friends with and always treated with respect. • Arbus began by using a meterless Nikon F camera, then switched to a Rolleiflex wide.

  5. Diane Arbus committed suicide July 26th 1971.
