What Is A Services Gateway? • A cable modem • A set top box • A DSL modem • A web phone • A PC • A automotive multimedia gateway • A dedicated residential gateway • Anything running the OSGi APIs!

OSGi and IPAC • The OSGi Platform provides the gateway into the local domain • Services can run on the OSGi Platform to simplify access into the local domain • OSGi does not prefer or mandate any one particular device access technique or technology. • Gatewaying/Firewalling/Address Translation functions can be performed by the OSGi. • OSGi does not provide access right down to the devices, but it can lever other access systems and provide an abstracted programming model.
