bUnny behaviors What bunny behaviors mean
here are nicholas and muffin. They will be doing many different behaviors today. All of the behaviors have a meaning.
Here, muffin is cleaning herself. Bunnies do this many times a day. It is a very common behavior and all bunnies do it.
Nicholas is nudging me. This usually means he wants me to move or he is reminding me that it is time for food. This behavior is preformed mostly in the morning and at night.
. THIS IS MUFFIN RUNNING UP TO THE PELLET BOX. PELLETS ARE ONE OF THE FOODS BUNNIES EAT. THIS IS ONE OF THE WAYS THAT BUNNIES SHOW THAT THEY ARE HUNGRY. THIS BEHAVIOR TAKES PLACE MOSTLY IN THE MORNING AND AT NIGHT, OR ANYTIME YOU COME INTO THE ROOM.
MUFFIN IS CHEWING A PIECE OF HAY. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR BUNNIES TO CHEW BECAUSE THEIR TEETH WOULD GET TO LONG IF THEY DIDN’T CHEW. IF THEIR TEETH GOT TO LONG, THEN THE BUNNY COULDN’T EAT. CHEWING IS THE MOST COMMON BEHAVIOR FOR BUNNIES AND CAN OCCUR AT ANYTIME OF THE DAY.
This is nicholas licking me. Bunnies only do this behavior when they are very happy with you. Bunnies will also lick you if they like something that is on your hand, such as soap, lotion, or honey and many others. This behavior can take place at any time of the day. Pay attention to when your bunny licks you- you can find out what your bunny likes to create a better bond between you and you pet.
This is nicholas lying down. Bunnies often do this when they are sleepy or hot. This behavior is most popular in late morning and afternoon. Bunnies will completely flop over so you can see their tummies when they are sound asleep.
Nicholas is standing up. Bunnies stand when they are curious. They also stand when they are alert. This can take place anytime in the day. Bunnies feel alert if they hear a loud sound. They might feel curious because they see you doing something above their eyelevel.
If a bunny stays right next to you, it means that they trust you. If you have a strong bond with your bunny, it will stay right next to you if you are scared or sad. In the picture, nicholas is STAYING RIGHT NEXT TO MY SISTER. SINCE SHE IS SLEEPING, HE TRUSTS THAT SHE WILL NOT SMOTHER HIM WITH PETS AND HUGS. IF WE TAKE THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND BUNNIES’ FEELINGS, THEY WILL UNDERSTAND OUR FEELINGS, TOO.
ESSAYBunnies do many different behaviors. There are behaviors that are most common, behaviors that are done only on special occasions and behaviors they do every day. But most importantly, it is very important to understand all of the behaviors- because they all have a meaning. The most common behavior for the typical rabbit is chewing. The purpose of chewing constantly is that bunny’s teeth are always growing. Bunnies chew to wear their teeth down. If bunnies don’t chew and their teeth get too long, eating will be hard for them because their teeth grow back into their throat or they can grow together. It is important to know what this common behavior means so you can provide some toys, (cardboard or hay) for your bunny to chew so it doesn’t have problems eating. If the teeth situation gets too severe, the rabbit may have to be put to sleep.A bunny’s typical day is this: morning- awake, eat. Afternoon-sleep. Night-awake, eat. There are behaviors for each of these times. In the morning, when they are hungry, they may run up to you, then run to the food bowl. That is their way of showing you that they are hungry. During this time, they may stand up on their hind legs. That means they are alert, or curious. They may nudge you too- that means that they want you to move out of their way or to remind you that you are forgetting to do something. In the afternoon, lying down is typical. Bunnies lie down because they are tired. When they flop over, they are sleeping. At night, behaviors are the same as in the morning. One of the behaviors that is not done very much is licking. Bunnies only lick because they are super happy with you or you have something really good on your hand. A favorite place for most bunnies to be petted is on their foreheads. This is a way to make your bunny happy to the licking point. Bunnies also like to lick your hand because there is a good tasting thing on it such as something sweet. Bunnies do have a sweet tooth! But when your bunny is licking you because it is happy with you, pay attention to what you are doing to your bunny. You can learn what your bunny really likes from when it licks you. It is very important for bunny owners to understand their pets’ behaviors so they can provide the right materials for the bunny to play with and chew. Bunnies have many needs and understanding the bunny’s behaviors is a way to address all their needs. For example, if you know what nudging means in the morning, then know that your bunny is hungry and that you need to feed it. Food is one of a rabbit’s needs. Also, it is important to understand the rabbit’s need for chewing. By understanding that behavior, you can prevent having your bunny put to sleep. After you and your bunny have been friends for a while, you can see you have made a really strong bond. One way that you can take care of your bunny is by understanding their behaviors. Once you have done this, they will trust you more and understand your needs and behaviors, too. When you attend to your rabbit’s needs, they will attend to yours, too. Like in the picture of my sister Susannah sleeping, Nicholas knows that she wants something to hold onto while she sleeps and since she is sleeping, he knows that she will not squeeze him too much. That is called trust. You put in all that effort and you get something back, too. There are many bunny behaviors. There are special behaviors for each part of the day, and behaviors that bunnies do every day at any time. It is important to understand what these behaviors mean- so you can take the best care of your bunny as possible.
