  1. Springport Middle SchoolPrincipal’s Mid-Year Report Tanya Overweg, Springport Middle School Note: Thank you to Scott Kosiol for sending us this template.

  2. SMS Math goal All SMS Staff will increase student proficiency in Geometry/Measurement Benchmarks: G.TR.05.01,M.TE.06.03, G.SR.08.06, and G.SR.08.07, for all 6 – 8 grade students as measured by Fall 2009 MEAP so that all non-disabled students increase 5% , disabled students increase 10%, and socio economically disadvantaged increase 10% in proficiency for these GLCE’s. Because there are no 7th grade GLCE’s which cover these skills, sixth grade benchmarks are to be reinforced during seventh grade instruction.

  3. One Objective from the Plan All Math Staff at Springport Middle School will complete Math Assessment Worksheet after each Chapter Test on selected Geometry problems.

  4. Steps to achieving this Objective • Gave Geometry Unit assessment. • Created the Math Assessment Worksheet to collect data • Created the question bank by GLCE in Examview to be included in subsequent assessments. • Decided not to use geometry assessments because we hadn’t done above to make comparisons. • Samples of Geometry Exam, Student samples of 6 question assessment. They still aren’t getting it. • Next, teachers would like to do more instructing in the Geometry GLCE prior to just giving the assessment. • Continue to gather more data

  5. Another Objective from the plan Objective 1: Teaching for Learning – Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment All Staff at Springport Middle School will use graphic organizers including but not limited to; Venn Diagrams, T-Charts, and KWL as a tool to organize information.

  6. Steps to achieving this Objective • All staff participated in a book study which contained specific information on graphic organizers. • Teachers presented the graphic organizers in lessons during not only math class but in all content areas. • Teachers rewarded students with go to lunch early tickets if they used a graphic organizer on their Meap assessment. • Some perception data gathered indicated that they had “fun” making the organizers but we have yet to see if it made a difference in their achievement. • Next, we plan to continue using graphic organizers in all classrooms.
